Would you like to make a difference to your community?
Wantage Independent Advice Centre is looking for volunteers to fill various vacancies, offering you the chance to be part of a caring, valued and happy team.
Volunteer Debt Advisors (don’t at this time have to see clients Face to Face)
We have several vacancies for volunteer Debt Advisors.
In this role you will assist clients to get a clear picture of their financial situation, ensure correct entitlement to benefits where appropriate and negotiate with creditors up to and including bankruptcy.
Volunteer Generalist Advisor Vacancies (don’t at this time have to see clients Face to Face)
In this role you will assist clients in topics ranging from benefits entitlement, housing issues, relationship matters, initial employment and consumer support to taking transport bookings and arranging appointments with specialists or third-parties eg local solicitors at the WIAC’s hosted legal surgeries.
The ideal candidate for both the Generalist and Debt Advisor vacancies would be comfortable dealing with clients and other agencies in person, by telephone and letter. You will have an empathetic, non judgemental approach and will value accuracy and attention to detail. Volunteers will be expected to take both external and in house training to meet the requirements of the role and will receive ongoing support from our experienced mentoring team. Full training will be given on the software programmes used by the WIAC. Volunteers must be available for 2 sessions per week, either morning or afternoon.
All applicants will need to provide two references.
Good Neighbour Vacancies (at this time some befriending is happening simply by telephone or letter)
